Call of Duty: XP 2011 Recap

Now, this is obviously a little late in coming, but hey; better late than never right?
Marshin, Volt, Ciod00d, and myself Kiyoshi (Hiii!) all traveled down to Los Angeles to attend the first ever Call of Duty: XP event, where we got to see the multiplayer aspects of the game in action, MONTHS (like 2) before release. We also got to participate in a handful of real-life Call of Duty scenarios.

Day 1 was registration, so we decided it’d be a good idea to show up early, and oh man was it a beneficial choice! The registration line consisted of somewhere around 5,000 people, and wrapped around a parking structure, down a street, and around some more buildings. Once registered we received our first assignments for the day (after waiting in line to actually get into the event center where XP was held). The main hall where they had projector screens hanging 30 feet from the ground at 75 foot intervals was huge.. not just ‘oh hey look, a big warehouse’ huge, but like ‘holy s^&# this is like an aircraft hangar!’ huge. Skip ahead three hours and Marshin and Volt are running ‘The Pit’ as seen in the prologue of Modern Warfare 2, while Ciod00d and myself were playing 16v16 domination on Scrapyard. Activision went all out in hosting this tournament, and poured tons of money into hosting this with the help of Microsoft.

At this point, if you don’t even know what Call of Duty: XP is or was, I wonder about why you’re reading this…. we also managed to play some multiplayer Black-Ops against other 4-man teams, and we gave a strong accounting of ourselves, managing to win 3 matches before we fell apart in a game of Search and Destroy. We participated in the new Spec-Ops game mode as well, coming close to the record for that day! That game mode definitely has the potential to be a favorite for a lot of people.

Day 2 we jumped right into line to try out the CoD:MW3 multiplayer, with the new strike packages and custom class setups. We did reasonably well for it being our first chance to sit down at one of the stations, and with an assortment of new weapons, it’s a fresh new exciting experience – one that I can’t wait to play. The different classes feel much better balanced than MW2 ever did, and coordinating killstreaks within your team becomes more important than ever when everyone is based on a different set. One game mode we wish we had gotten to play but didn’t get the chance to was the new Kill Confirmed mode – it looks amazingly exciting and is not going to be favored by campers. You have to pick up dog tags off of a fallen foe in order to score the points for the kill. Eventually it was time to step outside for some fresh air, while travelling down a zip line that ran over the majority of the outdoor area. Talk about a rush!

I suppose that’s as much of a recap you’re going to get for now, if you guys want to know more hit us up on the website and ask us questions. If you were there, feel free to share YOUR experiences!

Now a little video put together by Volt.

Extra Life Charity Event

CVG is having a charity event! Join us to help Central Valley Gamers raise money for Children’s Hospital Central California on October 15th. We have signed up with Extra Life, an annual 24-hour video game marathon that raises money to help kids at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Not only do we plan on growing our team and getting as many people as we can to donate and sponsor us to play video games for 24 hours, we plan on hosting a gaming event to fulfill our 24 hour promise together as a group. It’s going to be a “lock in” style event with a live 24 hour web stream.

We are still ironing out the details of the event, but the time and date are set. Mostly we are deciding on the best location, and working on bringing in some businesses to help sponsor the event. That doesn’t mean you can’t signup up and start raising money! Anyone is welcome to sign up and join our team on the Extra Life website, and once you do that. Make sure to drop us a message here on our site to let us know you plan on attending our event.
